I built over the last two years a human-like neural network chess engine that tries to predict your rating from a single game. It automatically adapts to your play and tries to play like a human at your level would play, giving you a balanced game. At the core I’m using an AlphaZero / Leela Chess Zero style neural network that I have trained on 1 billion human games from the lichess.org open database. Around this network I have built a chess engine in Rust with algorithms that use the outputs from the NN to produce human-like moves at a given rating from beginner to world champion, as…

In 2025, my family and I had a long streak of playing a Gomoku / Go Bang / five-in-a-row based game called OK Play. I built a web version so that we could play any time we wanted (i.e. on our phones after kiddos went to sleep). The first player to get five-in-a-row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) wins. In the first phase of play, players take turns placing their pieces next to existing pieces (always edge-to-edge; you can't place a piece with only a corner-to-corner connection). After players exhaust their pieces, play moves into the movement phase: you pick up an…

I’m Andrew, co-founder of Recall. Over the past few days I’ve been building Predict, a playground where anyone can: - propose skills we should measure in language models—live examples include difficult math, memory-manipulation resistance, code generation, and empathy under bad news - write evals (graded prompts) for those skills - forecast which models will score highest once GPT-5 is released Why this exists Benchmarks leak into training data quickly; scores are unreliable and labs still declare progress. The prediction tool aims keeps the target moving by letting the crowd define both the…

Hi HN, I made a simple little app to keep track of game rankings with friends. It uses the Elo system (like in chess) to adjust scores after each game. Works for board games, chess, padel, tennis, or anything that’s competitive. It’s free — give it a try
