Hello HN! We're excited to announce MyDuck Server, an open-source project that seamlessly integrates the analytical power of DuckDB with your existing MySQL & Postgres databases. *Backstory* Currently, there are no fully satisfactory open-source OLAP solutions for MySQL & Postgres. In the MySQL ecosystem, HeatWave offers close integration, but it's a proprietary, commercial product from Oracle. The Postgres community has seen promising DuckDB-based extensions emerge, including the official pg_duckdb. However, extensions can introduce isolation concerns in mission-critical environments.…

Hello fellow hackers! I'm excited to share the launch of WhoDB by Clidey. We are hoping to redefine the user experience with database management. Going away from the LLMs hype, we really just want to make developers' lives better! WhoDB is written in Golang, is lightweight, and supports a variety of database backends (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite3, MongoDB, & Redis). WhoDB offers: * Better UX: Intuitive and easy-to-use interface. * Faster Performance: Built with GoLang for exceptional speed and table virtualization in the Frontend. * Schema Visualization: Interactive graphs to visualize your…

Hi HN, we're excited to share our open source tool with the community! We previously posted here with the tagline “real-time events for Postgres” [0]. But after feedback from early users and the community, we’ve shifted our focus to working on tooling for manual database changes. We've consistently heard teams describe challenges with the way manual data updates are handled. Seemingly every engineer we spoke with had examples of errant queries that ended up causing significant harm in production environments (data loss/service interruptions). We’ve seen a few different approaches to how…

Hey everyone! I have created a product that relies on MongoDB for a document store but doesn't really need any of the distributed features to really justify having a hosted MongoDB or DocumentDB instance. Now that we're trying to turn this into a product, we're seeing that some companies have a little bit of resistance around managing yet another database. Most of our clients already have and manage PostgreSQL in one form or another. I knew that PostgreSQL already offered first class JSON support, but I didn't want to rewrite the application data layer from scratch if I could avoid it.…

INSTALL EXTENSION vsql-complex; CREATE TABLE t (val COMPLEX); Look, MySQL is awesome [flamewar incoming?]. But the ecosystem has stagnated. Why? No permissionless innovation. Postgres has flourished because people can change the core of the database (look at pgvector and pg_textsearch), without having to get their changes accepted upstream. (This, btw, is what powered GitHub's early success: you can fork a repo and make changes without needing the owners' approval) VillageSQL is a tracking fork of MySQL (open source, ofc) that adds an extension framework: * Drop-in replacement * Add custom…
