With my friends we wanted to have a nice friendly competition (no money involved) about the football worldcup by predicting the results. I though this might interest other groups of friends so I coded a website just for that in 3 days. Nothing ground breaking but I like the suscription system "Doodle" style with just links, no personal infos... Tell me what you think !

On a trip with my friend, he introduced me to Kalshi and Polymarket and was shocked at how degenerate it was being able to bet on literally anything. So naturally I built an app ironically where we could do the same thing (with fake money) on group outings! Managed to get a prototype finished in time for our big 14-person annual ski trip and we had a blast 'betting' on things like "Will [friend that always breaks his phone] break his phone?" and "Who will win the first game of Jackbox?" Having a low-stakes running leaderboard during our trip was so fun that I decided to flesh it out and…

I wanted to quantify the endless "which knife should I buy" debates on r/chefknives, so I built a data analysis pipeline to get some real answers. The project is a 5-phase system built with Node.js. It first uses Fuse.js for fast, typo-tolerant fuzzy matching of ~450 known brands and ~8,700 models. The remaining text is then passed to an LLM (via OpenRouter) for discovering new, unknown entities and performing sentiment analysis on every mention. I ran it on over 1,000 threads, totaling more than 25,000 comments. A few interesting findings: The Underdog: Budget-friendly Tojiro has a…

We found that evaluating products based on ratings alone often is not helpful, and some products have too many reviews to efficiently read. Also, for many products, we discovered that finding where the well-written and thoughtful reviews fell was more important than the content. So, for Startup Weekend Kansas City last weekend, we created an app (Horsebot3k) which parses Amazon to identify the better written reviews, and what topics people like and dislike. We got the app fully working over the weekend, and won first place! Check it out at http://horsebot3k.com We also have a 90 second…

Hey HN, I have been working on using the info-gathering and truth-seeking properties of the markets to get more honest reporting on all sort of things. The idea is to have a market game where people can wager a fake currency on what think is true and then, the citizen reviews the crowd-sourced information and makes a judgement about which position has the best case. It is crowd-sourced journalism with a market game. Please let me know what you think and my email is [email protected], if you have any questions.
