In plain words

A MIX 1010 is a simulator for Knuth's MIX machine, a theoretical computer described in The Art of Computer Programming. This version differs from the original MIX 1009 by using binary-encoded masks and omitting division and multiplication instructions. Users write programs in an assembler language with customizable syntax for labels, masks, instructions, and addressing modes. The simulator includes detailed documentation and an instruction reference on GitHub, making it suitable for students and enthusiasts learning about computer architecture and assembly language fundamentals.

From the sources

This is a simulator for Knuth's MIX machine from the book Art of Computer Programming . We use the identifier 1010 because this machine is slightly different from MIX 1009. We encode masks using binary and there is no division or multiplication instructions. A detailed readme and instruction list can be found on github . Statements in the assembler language look like (:label) (/mask) (instruction) (relative address) (+index) . Instuctions in memory look like address(:label) (/mask) (instruction) (address) (+index) . Here is an example multiplication routine: Here is an example where we compute the maximum in an array of numbers. here is an example where we traverse a binary tree with an…from danielbarter.github.io

Hi Hacker News, This is definitely out of my comfort zone. I just wanted to show you guys because I'm super proud of it. It's a 100% faithful recreation based off of the schematics, patents, and ROMs that were found online. So please watch the video and tell me what you think https://youtu.be/auOlZXI1VxA The reason why I think this is relevant is because I've been a programmer for 25 years and AI scares the shit out of me. I'm not a programmer anymore. I'm something else now. I don't know what it is but it's multi-disciplinary, and it doesn't involve writing code myself--for…

Hello all! I've been an avid fan of Pocket Operators by Teenage Engineering since I found out about them. I even own an EP-133 K.O. II today, which I love. A couple of months ago, Reddit user andiam03 shared a Google Sheet with some drum patterns [1]. I thought it was a very cool way to share and understand beats. During the weekend I coded a basic version of this app I am sharing today. I iterated over it in my free time, and yesterday I felt like I had a pretty good version to share with y'all. It's not meant to be a sequencer but rather a way to experiment with beats and basic sounds,…
