A website for sharing the "Good, Bad, and Why"s of urban spaces

Hello HN! We're a small team in Kyoto building a website called dédédé (https://dedede.de/en) that invites people to share the various positives, negatives, oddities, etc. they find in urban spaces. The project grew out of an earlier effort where we'd built an app that assisted participatory urbanism workshops run by local nonprofits. With the new platform, we're trying to build something similar but more casual and hopefully with broader appeal, that'll be fun to use even outside of formal workshop situations. We'd love to hear your thoughts!

In plain words

Dédédé is a website where users share observations about urban spaces, documenting the good, bad, and unusual aspects they encounter. Built by a team in Kyoto, it evolved from an earlier app designed for participatory urbanism workshops with nonprofits. The platform aims to make casual urban observation and feedback accessible to a broader audience beyond formal workshop settings, allowing people to contribute their perspectives on city environments in an approachable way.

For the past few months, I've been working on a website that answers two different questions: - Where in my city have the best travel times to all the things and people I care about? - Given a listing, how far is it from all the things and people I care about? Personally this was fueled by my own frustrations when I was apartment hunting in NYC. I was frustrating to have to juggle so many Google Maps tabs when I was evaluating a listing, and it was also annoying to not have full confidence that I was even searching in the right places. I wanted to be close to work, a Trader Joe's, and a…

Do you remember the internet of the early 2000s? Neat single function websites that let you be creative and customize your spaces and weren't setting out to be the next major conglomerate (or to be bought by them). I'm building a series of websites that have simple concepts but too many of the players have tried to make their product so big. I also used to live in a very rural area so my goal is to make websites that load fast even on very slow internet. I'm starting with Lynx.boo. A linktree style website that lets you fully customize your CSS (and adds a bunch of classes to your links to…

    Little Fixes – a spatial forum to improve your city2024 · littlefixes.xyz · ▲113

I love urban planning and think the way we interact with the built environment is hugely impactful to individuals. But I also think that most people have been trained to take the built environment as a given rather than something that they have partial ownership of. By building a place to discuss their community on a hyper-local scale, I’m hoping to encourage residents to feel like they are an important piece of their city. I thought building a sort of spatial forum, where city residents can discuss the little annoyances in their neighborhoods, might help people a) start thinking about which…

Hey HN, As noted in a previous comment posted on the "Paris Will Become ‘100% Cyclable’" thread [0], I've been contributing to a project (as a volunteer backend developer) to try to accelerate urban change around pedestrian/cyclable/car-free streets. It's "change.org for urban transformation". It started with a Twitter account posting Dall-E-ified versions of streets [1] which picked up steam in the press [2]. And now, we're live with our own site! Happy to answers questions, and other folks from the project might chime in as well. [0]…
