Agentflow – Run Complex LLM Workflows from Simple JSON

So, it feels like this should exist. But I couldn't find it. So I tried to build it. Agentflow lets you run complex LLM workflows from a simple JSON file. This can be as little as a list of tasks. Tasks can include variables, so you can reuse workflows for different outputs by providing different variable values. They can also include custom functions, so you can go beyond text generation to do anything you want to write a function for. Someone might say: "Why not just use ChatGPT?" In plain words

Agentflow is a tool that executes complex language model workflows defined in JSON files. Users build workflows as lists of tasks with variables and custom functions, then trigger them with different inputs for reusable automation. It's designed for developers who need templated, repeatable LLM processes with consistent results, going beyond simple chat interfaces by enabling task chaining, variable substitution, and integration of custom code alongside AI-generated text.

In the maker’s words, at launch

So, it feels like this should exist. But I couldn't find it. So I tried to build it. Agentflow lets you run complex LLM workflows from a simple JSON file. This can be as little as a list of tasks. Tasks can include variables, so you can reuse workflows for different outputs by providing different variable values. They can also include custom functions, so you can go beyond text generation to do anything you want to write a function for. Someone might say: "Why not just use ChatGPT?" Among other reasons, I'd say that you can't template a workflow with ChatGPT, trigger it with different variable values, easily add in custom functions, or force the use of custom functions for steps in the workflow. Someone might also say: "Then why not use Auto-GPT or BabyAGI?" Among other reasons, I'd say you can't if you want consistency because these tools operate autonomously, creating and executing their own tasks. Agentflow, on the other and, lets you define a step-by-step workflow to give you more control. I'd like to do more with this, including adding more custom functions, and more examples, and more ways to trigger workflows (such as in response to events). But first, I want to make sure I'm not wasting my time! For starters, if something like this already exists, please tell me.

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

  • Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…

Outlines is a Python library that focuses on text generation with large language models. Brandon and I are not LLM experts and started the project a few months ago because we wanted to understand better how the generation process works. Our original background is probabilistic, relational and symbolic programming. Recently we came up with a fast way to generate text that matches a regex (https://blog.normalcomputing.ai/posts/2023-07-27-regex-guide...). The basic idea is simple: regular expressions have an equivalent Deterministic-Finite Automaton (DFA) representation. We…
