What it does

AI coding agents generate code fast, but large applications quickly become hard to maintain. AICode is a VSCode extension powered by ChatGPT and built around a controlled AI development methodology: Ideate → Specify → Refine → Code → Verify. It prioritizes architecture and review before generation. It is slower than autonomous agents, but far faster than coding without an AI and produces structured, maintainable software built for real long-term projects.

AICode is a spec-driven, offline-first AI coding assistant and VS Code extension that uses a local 5D index to enforce control before code generation. Conventional AI coding agents write code fast, but the code they produce is low quality, so the bottleneck becomes the human code review that follows. That leaves the real gain anywhere between zero and 4x. AICode moves control before the code is generated, not after. Reviewing and fixing an intent is far easier than reviewing and fixing code.
