Render React components to Sketch for design systems

Airbnb React Sketch.app launched on April 25, 2017 with 745 votes, #8 of 3,007 launches that month and more than 99% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 9 years on.

In plain words

Airbnb React Sketch.app is a tool that converts React components directly into Sketch designs. It bridges the gap between development and design by allowing teams to render component-based interfaces in Sketch, making it particularly useful for managing design systems. The tool works with existing React code, enabling designers and developers to maintain consistency across digital products without manually recreating components in design software.

From the sources

First, make sure you have installed Sketch version 50+, & a recent npm . Managing the assets of design systems in Sketch is complex, error-prone and time consuming. Sketch is scriptable, but the API often changes. React provides the perfect wrapper to build reusable documents in a way already familiar to JavaScriptfrom react-sketchapp.airbnb.tech

I originally built this app to organize and reuse interesting React + Tailwind components I came across on Twitter, inspired by the shadcn/ui approach. Later, a friend started contributing their own components, and it got me thinking—this could grow into something bigger, like an NPM for design engineers to share and use components. Would love to hear your thoughts!

I made this because building UIs in a lexical medium like code is super annoying. I have to pre-render what I’m making in my head, and then jump between the browser and IDE to test. I was inspired by the developer console in chrome and safari since I end up editing css there because it’s ironically more convenient. Hope it’s useful!
