What it does
Aktar is a free, open-source app for instantly sharing files through your own S3-compatible storage. Drop a file and Aktar uploads it to S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, MinIO or similar storage, then copies the shareable link to your clipboard. Works with any file: screenshots, logs, builds, videos. No accounts, no intermediary servers, and your files stay in your own storage. Available on Mac, Windows and iOS, with Android coming soon.
Aktar is a free, open-source macOS menu bar app that uploads files to your own S3-compatible storage (Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, MinIO and more) and copies the link to your clipboard.
Drop a file on the menu bar, get a link on your clipboard. Aktar uploads straight to your own S3-compatible storage. No account, no middleman. Pick a provider, paste your access keys and bucket name. Keys go straight into the macOS Keychain. Drag files onto the menu bar popover, pick them from Finder, or press ⌃⇧⌘U in any app to upload whatever is on your clipboard. The public URL lands on your clipboard as a plain link, Markdown, HTML, or your own template. Sharing something just for a while? Pick Delete after 1, 7, 14 or 30 days and forget about it. Your bucket's own lifecycle rules delete the file on schedule, even when Aktar isn't running, so temporary shares don't pile up. Aktar sets…from getaktar.com

It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
