An extensible personal assistant server
This project is less about the personal assistant and AI part, and more about integrating a bunch of interesting Rust crates together to get something that's easily extensible. This is a little project I've been working on for a while in order to better learn Python. Although IRC may not exactly be the most exciting medium, I still find it to be fun and useful, this interest lead me to writing a bot. I didn't want to buy a standalone computer or repurpose a laptop to run constantly so I could maintain a system to sync my LLMs, so I built this. It's a simple overview of my system, laid out in a way easy to unpack and replicate for yourself. The project is meant to be configured individually, and uniquely, since one solution might not be what's best for another. So a while ago I was thinking it would be neat to build a site that had the most absolute utility. The idea I came up with was a site to store those little protips that are super useful, if you know them ahead of time. Sysadmin is my bread and butter, but I taught myself PHP and have been coding on and off for the past 6 years. I've worked on numerous freelance gigs, but mainly internal apps that I use for my real job. I worked on this project (on and off) for the past year and I'm happy to finally release it to the public. I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it.
