APIEval-20

An open benchmark for AI agents that test APIs

Visit site ↗Alternativestop 4% of May 2026

What it does

APIEval-20 is a black-box benchmark for API testing agents. Each agent gets only a JSON schema and one sample payload, then generates a test suite. We run those tests against live reference APIs with planted bugs and score bug detection, API coverage, and efficiency. Unlike LLM-as-judge evals, scoring is fully objective: a bug is either caught or it isn’t. Tasks span auth, errors, pagination, schemas, and multi-step flows. Open on Hugging Face.

    ML-Dev-Bench – Benchmarking AI Agents on Real-World AI Workflows2025 · github.com · ▲6

We’re excited to share ML-Dev-Bench, a new open-source benchmark that tests AI agents on real-world ML development tasks. Unlike typical coding challenges or Kaggle-style competitions, our benchmark simulates end-to-end ML workflows including: - Dataset handling and preprocessing - Debugging model and code failures - Implementing new model architectures - Fine-tuning and improving existing models With 30 diverse tasks, ML-Dev-Bench evaluates agents across critical stages of ML development. To complement this, we built Calipers, a framework that provides systematic performance evaluation and…

    Cheddar-bench – unsupervised benchmark for coding agentsFeb 2026 · github.com · ▲9

I built a small benchmark to test CLI coding agents on blind bug detection. A challenger agent injects bugs and writes ground truth (`bugs.json`). A different reviewer agent audits the repo without seeing ground truth, and an LLM matcher scores bug-to-finding assignments. Current run: 50 repos, 150 challenges, 450 reviews, 2,603 injected bugs. Weighted detection: Claude 58.05%, Codex 37.84%, Gemini 27.81%. LLM-judge benchmarks are easy to get wrong, so I’d really appreciate critical feedback on benchmark fairness, scoring/matching methodology, and obvious failure modes I’m missing. Full…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

  • Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…

Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
