What it does
Audex Trace is a Mac mini player for Apple Music that shows what is actually playing in real time: codec, bit depth, sample rate, and output match status. It also shows Playing Next, estimates upcoming queue quality, and warns about tracks that may skip or fail before they interrupt playback.
Audex Trace shows the live Apple Music playback format and your Mac output sample rate, with free Playback Verification before buying Pro.
Audex Trace lets you verify what Apple Music is actually playing on your Mac (live codec, bit depth, and sample rate) and whether your Mac output matches. Trace Pro is $29.99 as a one-time purchase. No subscription. A track can be playing in Hi-Res Lossless while your Mac output is still set to another sample rate. Trace shows that mismatch. Trace is built for the moments where the visible label is not enough: the current playback format, the selected Mac output, and signs that the next queued track may fail or skip all matter before the music reaches your ears. Apple Music may play ALAC while the selected Mac output sample rate is still set to something else. Trace shows the detected…from trace.audex.dev

Trace – Offline Mac meeting transcripts you can flag mid-callJun 2026 · traceapp.info · ▲205I'm the developer of Trace, a non-intrusive, shortcut-driven Mac app that records and transcribes your meetings on-device. I know, another meeting transcription app. Please bear with me though, I'm confident that this is at least a little novel. I primarily built Trace for myself. I'd been using MacWhisper, but there was enough fiddling before each call that I'd forget to start it and walk out of an hour-long meeting with nothing written down. So the things I cared about most were that it's quick to activate and stays out of the way. You activate Trace by pressing a global shortcut…

Hi HN, Last time I showed free-music-demixer, which people seemed to enjoy. It was a static website with a Javascript + WASM module to perform music demixing (or music source separation) using an AI model UMX-L (Open-Unmix) running client-side in the browser. Since then, I have overhauled the project and made several improvements: - The demixing/separation quality is higher now, since I implemented the missing post-processing step - Memory usage is lower now by performing a custom segmented inference with a streaming LSTM, which should allow larger tracks (or, dare I say,…

I’m happy to announce the first release of Roc Toolkit, version 0.1.0! Roc provides a C API for real-time audio transport. The user just writes a stream to the one end and reads it from another end. Roc, in turn, performs encoding and decoding, and, more importantly, deals with the problems re

Homebrew 6.0.0▲1,481Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!

Hi HN! I was super frustrated at apps like tiktok and wechat preventing me from saving or downloading the animated gifs, so I made a little tool to turn a screen recording into a slack-sized emoji. Hope you get some value from this!
