Hi HN, my name is Sammy. I am new to the community. We're building Shamel (https://www.shamelstudio.com) a solution focused on automating the tedious parts of film scheduling. For script breakdowns we utilize a mix of text parsing algorithms & an LLM to achieve this. We are built by filmmakers for filmmakers (mainly producers & assistant directors). This was the inspiration for Shamel. It has been almost a year long journey for us so far, where the most difficult part for me was having to learn web developing from scratch as a data scientist. We just launched our beta and I understand most of you are not filmmakers, but I would love any feedback you may have. Also, if you know anyone who might find it useful, we would appreciate it if you can share it with them. We've tried to make the sign-up process as simple as possible offering an integration with your Google account in addition to simple email sign-up. We also don't require users to put in their credit card if they just want to try it for a week. Thank You! Sammy

I spent the past week implementing a 1 Layer Neural Net and training it on MNIST within the visual scripting language provided by scratch.mit.edu. It was tedious, but ultimately not too difficult. The code runs incredibly slowly, so much so that 64 samples of MNIST takes 5+ hours to train on my machine. There were a lot of little mini challenges that were fun to overcome (implementing softmax was very tricky). If you're interested, I encourage you to try and improve on it! I’ve spent the last month or so hacking on a prototype to let filmmakers make concept art more quickly with recent generative image tools. This is very much a beta—with current functionality you can make projects, generate shots, and upload scripts which we can process into shotlists. Features I’m working on as we speak: character consistency, location consistency, framing and composing shots. Let me know what you think or what else I should build!

I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it.
