AWS Infrastructure for Stanford Course in Parallel Programming

AWS Infrastructure for Stanford Course in Parallel Programming launched on July 26, 2014 with 48 votes and more than 90% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 12 years on.

In plain words

Elliott Slaughter developed AWS infrastructure management for Stanford University's CS149 Parallel Programming course. The system automates setup and maintenance of different hardware and software stacks required for each programming assignment, replacing the previous approach of manually managing separate physical machines. The infrastructure enables teaching assistants to efficiently provision and manage diverse computing environments for a course that explores multiple parallel programming models.

Over the last two winters I have had the privilege of being a teaching assistant for CS149: Parallel Programming at Stanford University with instructors Alex Aiken and Kunle Olukotun . When I started, I took up the job of overhauling the management of machines for the course. CS149 is unusual in that each assignment investigates a different programming model. As a result, every assignment runs on a different hardware and software stack. In the beginning, TAs maintained a separate physical hardware for each assignment. Setting up an assignment meant going down into the basement of the Gates building to check that the machines hadn’t been borrowed or stolen, and configuring (often manually)…from elliottslaughter.com

I built an unofficial CLI and MCP server for Lambda cloud GPU instances. The main idea: your AI agents can now spin up and manage Lambda GPUs for you. The MCP server exposes tools to find, launch, and terminate instances. Add it to Claude Code, Cursor, or any agent with one command and you can say things like "launch an H100, ssh in, and run big_job.py" Other features: - Notifications via Slack, Discord, or Telegram when instances are SSH-ready - 1Password support for API keys - Also includes a standalone CLI with the same functionality Written in Rust. MIT licensed. Note: This is an…
