Backscroll

Search your ChatGPT, Claude & Gemini history in one place

What it does

You've had hundreds of useful conversations with AI — and the good ones are gone the moment the thread scrolls away. Backscroll makes your whole AI history searchable. Export your ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini conversations, drop them in once, and search across all of them by keyword or by meaning. Ask a question and get an answer pulled straight from your own past chats, linked back to the exact conversation. No screen recording, no background capture — just your exports, made findable.

Import your ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini history and search it like a second brain. Find every prompt, answer, and idea you've ever worked through.

Backscroll turns your ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini history into a searchable memory you actually own — so the thing you worked out three weeks ago is still there when you need it. Bring your own export. No card. Your chats are never sold or used to train anything. Grounded in your own words, with links back to the exact conversation. It never makes things up. Download your data from ChatGPT or Claude and drop the file in. Nothing is scraped — you bring it. Stuck? See the step-by-step export guide below. We parse every thread, read it for meaning, and index it. Keyword and meaning both work from the first second. Search by what you meant. Ask a question and get a grounded answer. This is another one of my automate-my-life projects - I'm constantly asking the same question to different AIs since there's always the hope of getting a better answer somewhere else. Maybe ChatGPT's answer is too short, so I ask Perplexity. But I realize that's hallucinated, so I try Gemini. That answer sounds right, but I cross-reference with Claude just to make sure. This doesn't really apply to math/coding (where o1 or Gemini can probably one-shot an excellent response), but more to online search, where information is more fluid and there's no "right" search engine + text…

  • I trained a 125M-parameter transformer to autocomplete piano performances in real time (~108 notes/sec on an iPhone 15). The idea is basically GitHub Copilot or Tabnine, except instead of prompting it with code, you prompt it by playing a few notes on a MIDI piano. The model then continues what you played, entirely on-device. The app is free if anyone wants to try it. Happy to answer questions about the model, training, Core ML, or the many things that didn't work.

  • Hey HN, Henry from Cactus here! We previously released Cactus Needle, a 14MB agentic LLM for tool call, device use, and structured extraction for phones, wearables, smart homes, small robots and microcontrollers. We got really great feedback here, and have now incorporated the suggestions to release Needle 2. The whole model is a single 14MB binary that runs a full session in 28MB of RAM; 45m parameters at 2bit compression. Needle hits 500 tokens/sec decode speed on a Raspberry Pi 5, sits between 400-1,500 tokens/sec on VR devices like Meta Quest 3S and Apple Vision Pro, and ranges…

  • Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!
