Bacon

Hi, Im Oscar. So I built Bacon cos like many of you ,I spend a lot of time staring at my terminal(s) waiting for claude code to finish. But first, shout out to Andrew McCalip (@andrewmccalip) who built kickbacks.ai. He came up with the spinner ad and revenue share model, but as a VS code extension. But tbh Id rather not use VS code, so i built the terminal native version as a personal challenge. So Bacon does that, it shows you ads on claude code. There are five surfaces, from least to most intrusive: spinner, statusline, strip, card, and marquee. When an ad shows up, you get a 50% cut of…

What it does

Bacon shows a tiny, labeled ad on a terminal surface while your AI coding agent is thinking and pays you half of what the advertiser pays. 🥓 What makes it different: Server-owned pricing — your cut is a floor, not a bid. Advertisers can't underpay you. Privacy by architecture — only a coarse intent label (auth, database…) ever leaves your machine. Never your prompts, never your code. This is a side hustle, not a paycheck — found money for time you're already spending waiting on your agent.

Bacon is an ad network for AI coding tools. Install the plugin, see occasional clearly-labeled ads in your terminal, and earn a share of the revenue your attention makes. It's free, opt-in, and your prompt never leaves your machine — only a coarse intent signal does.

You're coding anyway. Bacon rides along, drops the occasional clearly-labeled ad next to a reply, and pays you 50% of the placement's base rate. Free to install, opt-in, and yours to throttle. Your prompt never leaves your machine — only a coarse intent signal does. Don't hand-roll sessions. Use a provider that handles tokens, Costs you nothing, asks for nothing. Set ad frequency to minimal anytime and watch your balance in real time from the dashboard. You're already running prompts all day. Bacon just lets a few of them earn — and you decide how few. One command in Claude Code, then sign in to start earning. You stay anonymous to advertisers by default — they see only a coarse intent…from geturbacon.dev

Hey HN, I noticed there are 1,000+ MCP skills on GitHub with zero way for creators to charge for them. So I built Agent37. Selling Claude skills today means asking customers to download your skill, set up Claude Code on their laptops, configure MCP servers, and pray it works. No trial, no updates, often you're just handing over the source. Agent37 lets creators upload a skill, share a link, and anyone can try it instantly (no Claude account needed). Built-in Stripe, creators keep 80%. Looking for feedback on the approach. Would you use something like this?

Hi We built [Mintly](https://usemintly.com) to make ad creation stupid simple. You pick an ad layout from brands like Gymshark or rhode, upload your product image, and it recreates the ad with your colors, logo, and product — no design skills needed. I kinda got annoyed with how complicated or sucky some of these tools were + I live by two philosophies: keep it simple and steal what works. So we automated the entire process. Mintly now gets used by 500+ brands, and it takes ~60 seconds to go from product image → finished ad. Would love to hear your feedback, questions, or…

Hey HN, we're building Design Rails. It's a chat-based brand builder. You describe your project, iterate with an AI designer, and walk away with a logo, color palette, typography, and style guide - all formatted as specs you can drop into your project for Claude Code, Cursor or whatever you're coding with. Free tier gets you a full logo (PNG) and basic palette. Paid tier ($49 one-time) - everything you need for your next project - full coding-agent ready specs, SVG logos, icon variants, etc. Built with Next.js, Vercel AI SDK, and Inngest for the async generation jobs. Would love to hear your…

Hey HN! I'm Connor, creator of Replicas. I'm a heavy Codex/Claude Code user, and I wanted to hand off tasks to agents like I would to an engineer - kick something off before work, let it scaffold while I'm at lunch, even come back to a ready PR. The problem: existing alternatives use workspace VMs that are black boxes. I have no access to any of them - they can't run tests, read logs, or use tools like the Playwright MCP (which I use to verify agents actually fixed what they claim to fix). Replicas gives agents real cloud workspaces where they can: - Run your test suite and read the…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

  • Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!
