Beat Jet Lag
Free jet lag recovery planner based on circadian science
What it does
Beat Jet Lag builds you a personalised jet lag recovery plan from your flight times. Enter your flight number and get a day-by-day schedule: when to sleep, when to get sunlight, when to avoid light, and when to take melatonin. Works for any route. Any timezone. I built it because I was tired of googling the same generic advice after every long-haul flight. The science is well established, nobody had turned it into a specific plan for a specific flight. Free, no account, exports to calendar.

After suffering one too many times from bad jet lag, I read a bunch of circadian rhythm papers and developed a simple app to help fight jet lag. I knew that avoiding devices at night was helpful, but it turns out that getting the right light at specific times of day can help not just with jet lag but overall sleep and well being. How it works: you give the app your sleep goal, and then it coaches you by estimating current melanopic light exposure from the iPhone's camera. I validated this against an $1800 lab-grade light meter and was surprised to find it is absolutely close enough for these…

Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
