In plain words
Binspector is a binary format analysis tool that helps developers decode and understand binary files without manually parsing hex values. It allows users to examine file structures like JPEG metadata, Exif data, and other binary formats by providing a more readable interface than traditional hex editors. The tool is designed for developers who need to inspect, validate, and understand the internal structure of binary files during their work.

Binary formats and files are inescapable. Although optimal for computers to read, sussing them manually requires exacting patience. Every developer has a moment in their career with a hex editor open, staring blankly at screenfuls of 0xDEADBEEF or UTF-8 encoded multibyte unicode. Binspector 1 was born when I found myself scouring JPEGs to make sure their Exif and IPTC/IIM metadata blocks were telling consistent stories. The tool has evolved into something genuinely useful, and I am excited to share it in the hopes others will benefit from it as well. The goal of Binspector is to help bridge the gap between binary formats and the developers who wrestle with them. It does this in many ways,…from binspector.github.io

Bin-graph: Visualize binary files2024 · github.com · ▲57This program provides a simple way of visualizing the different regions of a binary file. Written in C, depends only on libpng. Currently (commit 1dd42e3) it is able to generate PNG images that represent various aspects of the binary: - Grayscale: Byte values, 00..FF. - Ascii: Printability of each byte. - Entropy: Of a "block", changed with --block-size. - Histogram: Bar graph of the byte frequencies. - Bigrams: Each point is determined by a pair of bytes. - Dotplot: Measure self-similarity. Image width/height is N^2. In the future, I plan on adding an SDL version that allows the user…

Talanoa▲338Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
