BlockTheNews puts a six-second pause in front of 672 news sites, pre-loaded from more than ten countries, and in front of any others you care to add. The page you wanted is replaced by a countdown. There is nothing to click. You simply wait. Then it asks one question: why do you need this, right now? Your answer is never saved, and nothing about your browsing leaves your device. Mean it, and the site opens for ten minutes. The ones you genuinely rely on can be waved through for good. Outlook: continued shrieking, easing by teatime. Readers advised to look out of a window. I made OwnTime to balance between competing priorities in my life. The idea is based on two main influences: the concept of "roles" from "The 5 Choices" (2015), and my repeated failure to effectively implement time blocking due to the necessary flexibility in my role.
