A full-time startup founder sharing my thoughts on building things, my journey, the startup world, and beyond. At times I use different services for sharing text or code snippets. Pastebin is a well known term for such services (where you paste whatever you want to share). The functionality is also simple (mostly) and that’s why I decided to build a pastebin service using only NGINX. I have been a fan of NGINX the moment I learnt of it. In my earlier days (about 5 yrs ago), I was an Apache guy . But the moment I became familiar with NGINX and its vast power, I never looked at any other webserver software. I often share text or code snippets online and that is why, It was fun to build it…from usamaejaz.com

Pbnj – A minimal, self-hosted pastebin you can deploy in 60 secondsDec 2025 · pbnj.sh · ▲69I'm sure folks here have seen pastebins a thousand times. There's no innovation left in this space – and that's kind of the point. When I wanted to self-host a pastebin, every option I found was too much. Git-based version control, OAuth, elaborate admin panels. I just wanted something I could deploy in under a minute with a CLI that actually works. So I built pbnj (yes, like the sandwich). What it is: - A minimal, beautiful pastebin with syntax highlighting for 100+ languages - One-click deploy to Cloudflare (free tier gives you ~100,000 pastes) - CLI-first: pbnj file.py → get a URL, copied…

Almost eight years ago I launched an online “Linux sysadmin course for newbies” here at HN. It was a side-project that went well, but never generated enough money to allow me to fully commit to leaving the Day Job. After surviving the Big C, and getting made redundant I thought I might improve and relaunch it commercially – but my doctors are a pessimistic bunch, so it looked like I didn’t have the time. Instead, I rejigged/relaunched it via a Reddit forum this February as free and open - and have now gathered a team of helpers to ensure that it keeps going each month even after I can’t…
