Caret

We've been heads-down building this for a few weeks and want real feedback before we open it up. Caret runs in the background and completes your thoughts across every app: email, terminal, notes, wherever. Hit Tab and it finishes the sentence. We're onboarding the first users ourselves, one by one. So if you're interested, one of the three of us will get on a call with you to set you up and understand how you work. Looking for 20 people.

Caret launched on April 7, 2026 with 211 votes, #132 of 21,248 launches that month and more than 99% of that year's launches.

What it does

Caret gets to know you and autocompletes you across every app on your Mac. It learns your work, your friends, your style and suggests completions that actually sound like you. Just press Tab.

AI that sees everything on your screen and completes you everywhere. Press Tab in any app on your Mac.

Reads your screen and creates memories. Gets smarter the longer you work. Caret is not another chat app. It appears in any app on your entire Mac. Hit tab. Your thought, finished. In your voice, with full context. Reads your screen and creates memories. Gets smarter the longer you work. Caret is not another chat app. It appears in any app on your entire Mac. Hit tab. Hey HN, I built Friendware because I wanted autocomplete that works everywhere on my Mac, not just in code editors. In any text field it can draft replies, rewrite text, and write prompts for AI tools; it uses on-screen context to adjust based on what you’re doing. My goal was making it feel native and not require workflow changes, so it stays accessible across apps by living in the notch. Currently working on better voice learning and a memory system, would love feedback on what to prioritize!

I caught myself copy-pasting into ChatGPT like 50 times a day. Too lazy for that, so I built a shortcut. Select text anywhere on Mac, press a hotkey — text gets rewritten / translated / summarized / whatever, right where you are. No tabs, no copy-paste dance. Native Swift app, hooks into macOS accessibility APIs. Bring your own API key and calls go straight to OpenAI / Anthropic. Or just use the free tier — 20 requests/day, no signup. https://aihotkeys.tech Curious for the feedback

Hey HN! Nudge captures your screen every minute and uses GPT-4o to detect when you're distracted. Describe what you want to work on ("Review PRs on GitHub for 20min") and Nudge will alert when it sees you doing something else. I built Nudge because I get easily distracted at work. I've been using it for a few weeks and I'd say my procrastination is down 20-30%. (That's partly because Nudge forces me to break my day into small, concrete activities.) The AI detection can work perfectly but it depends on how clearly you describe your goal. For example, "I want to reply to my boss" is bad, but…

  • With social media and now AI, its important to keep the indie web alive. There are many people who write frequently. Blogosphere tries to highlight them by fetching the recent posts from personal blogs across many categories. There are two versions: Minimal (HN-inspired, fast, static): https://text.blogosphere.app/ Non-minimal: https://blogosphere.app/ If you don't find your blog (or your favorite ones), please add them. I will review and approve it.
