CatchAll by NewsCatcher

Hey HN, Artem and Maksym from NewsCatcher here. Some of you know us as we started six years ago as two freshly graduated economics students who decided to build the best news API product. We started NewsCatcher thinking the market for news APIs was so big that we could build a self-serve platform and get millions of $29 users. Obviously, it was a wrong assumption. We pivoted to serve enterprises and had success with it. But we are hackers at heart, and we want to serve hackers. We haven't used our Launch HN yet, so consider this our smoke test. We're looking for feedback and power users…

What it does

CatchAll is a web search API that builds structured datasets from the open web. Submit a query, and it scans thousands of web pages, validates every result, and returns clean, deduplicated records — not a ranked list of links, but a dataset of real-world events, ready for workflows and pipelines.

Hey HN, It will be more of a "How I released my API without managing a website, servers, users, and payments. With 0$ up-front cost" Over the past year, I have come up with a plan of how I could release my own product without having to deal with managing users and/or dealing with payment processing. It is a 3 steps procedure: 1. Make an API that solves a problem 2. Deploy it with a serverless architecture 3. Distribute through an API Marketplace That took me about 2-3 days to develop an API using Flask, deploy it via Zappa on AWS, and release through RapidAPI. Source code of API:…

I love Hacker News but I rarely have time to read full articles / comments, so I built a simple site to summarize the top posts & comments to make it easier to get a big picture. A few implementation details: - It pulls the top stories from the HN Firebase API (`/v0/topstories`) - Filters stories with >200 points - Uses Claude Sonnet for post + comment summaries - Tries to capture the sentiment of the comments (still working on improving this) - Refreshes both posts + summaries hourly It has already helped me I hope it helps you! Please let me know if you have any feedback --…

I love HN but always felt the search with algolia is okay but does have some limitations. Since I work at Vectara I decided to try and create a better search for HN. It's based on data from roughly the last 6 months of HN stories and comments. Would love to hear feedback and how useful this is relative to the existing search.

It's been 2 years since the initial release [here](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36102610). The initial version was a very basic prototype which was not available anywhere beyond the GitHub repo. You had to install it as a userscript or load the extension manually. Since then, it remained simple but better, new features include: - Improved accuracy by also using comments to help gauge the topic of discussion and the right keywords. - Published as plugin for more browsers: Chrome, Firefox (including android), and more recently Microsoft Edge. - Support for narrow screens…

I wrote this small client to read hackernews from my favorite editor. It's currently using an external HTTP API [0] but I'm working on my own proxy [1]. I'd love to actually scrape and cache all the info I need using lisp. However, my time constraints are keeping me away of that goal. I could definitely use some help here! :) I'm also planning to add support for comments and posting new things. Any feedback is highly appreciated! Thank you! • Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
