chkbit
Checks your files for data corruption
chkbit launched on January 7, 2025 with 8 votes, #2,695 of 6,142 launches that month and more than 50% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 1 year on.
What it does
Your disk just died, but you manage to rescue your files! Great!.. maybe? Some data may have been corrupted, but you'll never know until you open and check each file. chkbit can help you with that!
Check your files for data corruption and run file deduplication
Some data may have been corrupted , but you'll never know until you open and check each file. chkbit creates hashes (checksums) of your data on your primary disks. Then these index files (or just one file if you prefer) travel with your data onto your backups. You can verify at any time if your files are still good or if any data has been corrupted. Data corruption can occur due to various factors, including software bugs, crashes, hardware errors (such as controller issues, failing connections, bad cables, and errors on the storage media), bit flips, power failures, environmental factors, malware, or even intentional actions by cloud providers that re-encode your media to save storage…from laktak.github.io

Claude-File-Recovery, recover files from your ~/.claude sessionsFeb 2026 · github.com · ▲99Claude Code deleted my research and plan markdown files and informed me: “I accidentally rm -rf'd real directories in my Obsidian vault through a symlink it didn't realize was there: I made a mistake. “ Unfortunately the backup of my documentation accidentally hadn’t run for a month. So I built claude-file-recovery, a CLI-tool and TUI that is able to extract your files from your ~/.claude session history and thankfully I was able to recover my files. It's able to extract any file that Claude Code ever read, edited or wrote. I hope you will never need it, but you can find it on my GitHub…

My partner reviews a lot of P&IDs (piping and instrumentation diagrams) and the adjacent files involved (excel, docx, pdfs, acd/l5x, etc). In his company, these are usually done in Bluebeam. It's really hard to see the diff + keep track of all the revisions resulted by these iterations. They end up storing files like "rev3_final_redlined.pdf". We've been looking for something close to Github to do these reviews, but haven't found one easy enough for folks with no CLI experience to understand and use (happy to check out more tools if you know any). So I built withkord.com to help with…

Talanoa▲346Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

I realized that the PDF engines of modern desktop browsers (PDFium and PDF.js) support JavaScript with enough I/O primitives to make a basic game like Tetris. It was a bit tricky to find a union of features that work in both engines, but in the end it turns out that showing/hiding annotation "fields" works well to make monochrome pixels, and keyboard input can be achieved by typing in a text input box. All in all it's quite janky but a nice reminder of how general purpose PDF scripting can be. The linked PDF is all ASCII so you can just open it in a text editor, or have a look at…

21st.dev▲1,211I originally built this app to organize and reuse interesting React + Tailwind components I came across on Twitter, inspired by the shadcn/ui approach. Later, a friend started contributing their own components, and it got me thinking—this could grow into something bigger, like an NPM for design engineers to share and use components. Would love to hear your thoughts!
