Cloudstic – Open-source CLI for encrypted, cloud-native backups
Hi HN, I built Cloudstic (https://github.com/Cloudstic/cli), an open-source Go CLI that creates encrypted, deduplicated, point-in-time backups of your Google Drive, OneDrive, and local files. The Problem Google Drive and OneDrive are sync tools, not backup tools. If you accidentally delete a folder, it’s gone everywhere. If ransomware encrypts your local files, the "mistake" propagates to the cloud immediately. There is no easy way to say: "Restore my entire Drive exactly as it looked on January 15th." Why not just use Restic or Borg? I’m a huge fan of Restic, and…

I made a privacy-first minimalist Backblaze2022 · blobbackup.com · ▲236Creator here. I was looking for something as simple as Backblaze Personal [1] but privacy focused and open source. This is my attempt to build that. Uses PyQt6 [2] for the GUI and Pyinstaller [3] for creating the platform specific binaries. The backup engine under the hood is Restic [4]. The server code is written in Laravel [5]. All the code is on GitHub [6]. I actually really like Backblaze (even use B2 for this offering behind the scenes) so this isn't meant to throw shade their way. Just wanted a private open source alternative. Something like Bitwarden but for backups. [1]…

Talanoa▲340Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
