What it does

The official Codex desktop app by OpenAI brings parallel coding agents natively to Windows. It isolates tasks in OS-level sandboxes and dedicated worktrees so agents can write, test, and propose code without trashing your local environment.

The ChatGPT desktop app for Windows gives you one interface for working across projects, running parallel chats, and reviewing results. The Windows app supports core workflows such as worktrees, scheduled tasks, Git functionality, the built-in browser, file previews, plugins, and skills. It runs natively on Windows using PowerShell and the Windows sandbox , or you can configure it to run in Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL2) . The source edits are in place. I’m checking the diff now for correctness, then I’ll run a build to catch any WinUI or interop issues from the new font enumeration path. The code is consistent on inspection.   Hey HN, I’ve built Open Codex, a fully local, open-source alternative to OpenAI’s Codex CLI. My initial plan was to fork their project and extend it. I even started doing that.
