connet – A P2P reverse proxy with NAT traversal
Over the past couple of months, I've been working on connet. At this point, it is working pretty smoothly (in what I use it for), so I wanted to share it with more people and see what they think. I know many other similar/reverse proxy solutions exist - like https://github.com/fatedier/frp, https://github.com/rapiz1/rathole, and a bunch more you can find at https://github.com/anderspitman/awesome-tunneling. However, I wanted to try and put my own little peer-to-peer twist on it. Thanks for checking it out, and sharing any…
In plain words
Connet is a peer-to-peer reverse proxy tool that enables NAT traversal, allowing direct connections between machines behind network barriers. It differs from similar solutions by implementing a decentralized, peer-to-peer architecture rather than relying on centralized servers. The tool is designed for developers and system administrators who need to expose local services or tunnel traffic across restrictive networks while maintaining direct communication between peers.

I realized that the PDF engines of modern desktop browsers (PDFium and PDF.js) support JavaScript with enough I/O primitives to make a basic game like Tetris. It was a bit tricky to find a union of features that work in both engines, but in the end it turns out that showing/hiding annotation "fields" works well to make monochrome pixels, and keyboard input can be achieved by typing in a text input box. All in all it's quite janky but a nice reminder of how general purpose PDF scripting can be. The linked PDF is all ASCII so you can just open it in a text editor, or have a look at…
