Create notes and maps that live outdoors with web and AR integration

Hey HN, We built Auglinn to make it easy for anyone to leave notes outdoors and create interactive maps, using AR. You can: - Pin notes or questions from your desktop that appear as AR notes outside, or - Leave notes or questions while exploring outside with AR, and view them later on your map via phone or desktop. My favorite feature: creating maps by dragging and dropping photos from your phone. The story? When I was a kid, my father visited Universal Studios and captured it all on video. When I went there in 2019, I found myself wondering if I was standing in the same spots he had. This…

In plain words

Auglinn is a platform that lets users create outdoor notes and interactive maps using augmented reality. People can pin notes and questions from their desktop to appear as AR markers at physical locations, or leave notes while exploring outside and view them later on a map through their phone or desktop. The app supports creating maps by dragging and dropping photos, making it useful for outdoor enthusiasts, urban planners, and tour guides who want to document and revisit specific locations.

In the maker’s words, at launch

My favorite feature: creating maps by dragging and dropping photos from your phone. The story? When I was a kid, my father visited Universal Studios and captured it all on video. When I went there in 2019, I found myself wondering if I was standing in the same spots he had. This curiosity triggered my interest in leaving traces on the world, and hence AR, and then Auglinn happened... It began for individuals (hobbyists, influencers, anyone), but professionals like urban planners, municipal employees, and some tour guides also loved it, so we added SaaS features later. Feedback is much appreciated.

Hey there HN! We’re Joe and Stopa, and today we’re open sourcing InstantDB, a client-side database that makes it easy to build real-time and collaborative apps like Notion and Figma. Building modern apps these days involves a lot of schleps. For a basic CRUD app you need to spin up servers, wire up endpoints, integrate auth, add permissions, and then marshal data from the backend to the frontend and back again. If you want to deliver a buttery smooth user experience, you’ll need to add optimistic updates and rollbacks. We do these steps over and over for every feature we build, which can…
