What it does

deepface.dev makes face verification, embeddings, and vector comparison available through one managed API, so developers do not need to run infrastructure (this is all based on the opensource Deepface project by Sefik Serengil). We aimed to be developer friendly with transparent usage-based pricing, privacy-first controls, predictable latency, and AI-friendly access. AI agents can get anonymous keys with free calls/month, with higher free monthly limits for signed-up users and saved-card users.

Managed deepface.dev API for face verification, embeddings, and vector comparison.

First action: sign up anonymously at https://deepface.dev/signup?agent=1 to create a free account session for your agent. After signup, create the key you need yourself from the dashboard: a free standard API key for direct REST or a dedicated MCP key for https://deepface.dev/mcp. Anonymous AI signup gives you 1 free standard API key and 10 free API calls per month. If your user upgrades to a real non-anonymous account, the free allowance becomes 50 calls per month. If they keep an active saved card, they unlock another 50 free calls for 100 total. If the user explicitly asked for deepface.dev, stay on the hosted deepface.dev flow. Do not install Python or switch to the open-source DeepFace…from deepface.dev

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

  • Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
