Edmund

Hi all, I made (yet another) Markdown editor because I couldn't find a native, macOS-first, file-based (i.e., not folder/vault-based) WYSIWYG Markdown editor / Typora alternative that feels like it's made by, or at least for, Apple. It's especially painful since I'm spoiled already by CotEditor when it comes to text editors...Hence, Edmund. To be clear (and a bit redundant), Edmund opens plain GFM .md files with live preview...Using AppKit + TextKit 2 + Swift, with WebKit ONLY for read-mode. I'm still developing more features such as file outline, basic folder support, extensions…

A native, lightweight macOS markdown editor with Live Preview - I7T5/Edmund

Edmund is a minimal, file-based, native Markdown editor for macOS with inline live preview. Whether as a companion alongside your Markdown knowledge base or as a standalone editor, Edmund blends in with macOS and works seamlessly with your files wherever they are. Our goal is to be the CotEditor of Markdown editors, i.e. elegant, powerful, configurable, and native inside out. ⚠️ Edmund is currently in beta. See the roadmap for what's coming next :D See my blog post for more of the motivation and design philosophy. Get Edmund.dmg from the latest release , open it, and drag Edmund.app to Applications : If macOS reports that the app is 🚧DAMAGED🚧 when you're trying to open it for the first…from github.com

Inspired by the design and UI/UX of apps like Notion, and utility of open-source apps like StackEdit, I decided to create a minimalistic, local-only WYSIWYG Markdown editor. Some features worth highlighting: - Monaco editor and Prettier integration for code snippets - Tables (apparently the holy grail of WYSIWYG editing) - Embeds (for CodePen, CodeSandbox and YouTube, most useful for HTML or JSON exports) - Accepts Markdown paste-in, and "exports"/generates HTML, Markdown and JSON outputs - Collaboration (with real-time awareness and initial commenting system, available only when…

  • OpenKnowledge – open source AI-first alternative to Obsidian/NotionJun 2026 · github.com · ▲381

Hi HN, Nick here. We’re launching OpenKnowledge (https://openknowledge.ai/), a “what you see is what you get” markdown editor that has direct integrations with Claude, Codex, and other agents. Available as MacOS app or Web UI+CLI. Fully free/local and OSS. We built this because we wanted a Notion-like experience for writing and sharing markdown files across our team. Obsidian is the best alternative we tried, but found it doesn’t have a true WYSWIG UI and it didn’t integrate well with Claude/Codex outside of community plugins. So we built OpenKnowledge. It takes…

    OverType – A Markdown WYSIWYG editor that's just a textarea2025 · ▲471

Hi HN! I got so frustrated with modern WYSIWYG editors that I started to play around with building my own. The problem I had was simple: I wanted a low-tech way to type styled text, but I didn't want to load a complex 500KB library, especially if I was going to initialize it dozens of times on the same page. Markdown in a plain was the best alternative to a full WYSIWYG, but its main drawback is how ugly it looks without any formatting. I can handle it, but my clients certainly can't. I went down the ContentEditable rabbit hole for a few years, but always came to realize others had solved it…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

  • Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!
