What it does

Hold a hotkey, speak, release. Parakeet transcribes on your Mac by default, or WhisperKit auto-detects 99 languages. Then choose polish: Apple Intelligence on-device with a tuned AFM dual-mode router, local Ollama, or your own OpenAI or Gemini key. Your Words learns your fixes and keeps names, acronyms, and vocab packs intact. Median hotkey to paste is 1.51s with polish, 0.43s without. Cloud defaults are private: OpenAI store=false, Gemini logging off. Free, no account, Apple Silicon.

On-device voice-to-text for macOS. Speak naturally, get polished prose in seconds. Powered by Apple Silicon, free to download, your audio never leaves your Mac.

Free private AI dictation for macOS. The fastest free, private way to turn your voice into polished text on Mac. On-device, on Apple Silicon, your voice never leaves your device. Prefer the terminal? brew install --cask saurabhav88/tap/enviouswispr EnviousWispr is a free dictation app for macOS. Hold a keybind, speak, and your words land as clean, polished text in whatever app you're using. Transcription runs entirely on your Mac, so your audio never leaves your device. Optional AI polish can tidy the text on-device too, or through a cloud provider you choose. Hold a keybind, speak naturally, and watch polished text land where you're typing. I built a macOS dictation app where everything runs on-device. Transcription, auto-correct, translation. No audio or text leaves your machine. It ships with 4 transcription engines you can swap between: WhisperKit (99 languages), NVIDIA Parakeet TDT 0.6B (25 European languages, fastest of the bunch), Qwen3-ASR 0.6B (30 languages), and Apple Speech on macOS 26+. They all run through CoreML/Metal. Whisper is the most versatile, Parakeet wins on raw latency for European languages, Qwen3 does better with CJK. I went with a protocol-based architecture so you pick the engine that fits your…

I caught myself copy-pasting into ChatGPT like 50 times a day. Too lazy for that, so I built a shortcut. Select text anywhere on Mac, press a hotkey — text gets rewritten / translated / summarized / whatever, right where you are. No tabs, no copy-paste dance. Native Swift app, hooks into macOS accessibility APIs. Bring your own API key and calls go straight to OpenAI / Anthropic. Or just use the free tier — 20 requests/day, no signup. https://aihotkeys.tech Curious for the feedback

  • Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
