EraseMe
A dead man's switch for your private files
EraseMe launched on June 3, 2026 with 2 votes.
What it does
EraseMe helps you stay in control of your private files, even when you no longer can. Set a future date or inactivity period, and EraseMe will automatically encrypt and eventually destroy selected files. Fully offline, local-first, with no cloud, accounts, or data collection. Built around a simple question: What happens to your files after death, theft, or loss of access? EraseMe makes sure your data disappears on your terms.
Automatically encrypt sensitive files after inactivity, then securely remove encrypted data when your second timer is reached. Most files just sit there. Unprotected. Forgotten. Vulnerable. Choose the folder that contains your sensitive data. EraseMe will watch it silently in the background. Choose exactly when protection should activate. Use hours, days of inactivity, or a specific future date for encryption and deletion. EraseMe handles the rest. Your data is encrypted first, then the encrypted copies can be overwritten and removed when the second threshold is reached. Idle time triggers a chain reaction: first encryption, then permanent deletion. Industry-standard encryption helps…from erase-me.uk

Homebrew 6.0.0▲1,481Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!

Hi HN! I was super frustrated at apps like tiktok and wechat preventing me from saving or downloading the animated gifs, so I made a little tool to turn a screen recording into a slack-sized emoji. Hope you get some value from this!
