What it does
An AI powered tool that creates that takes the sensationalism and us-versus-them mentality out of the news.
A daily brief. Each story is one event told through outlets that disagree — differences named in plain words, every source linked, coverage gaps measured. Then it ends.
eto takes a single event, gathers the accounts of it published by outlets that disagree, and writes one piece of prose that holds all of them. It names every source it used. Then it stops. Where the accounts conflict, the story says so — in the body, in plain words, with each side named. Consensus manufactured by deleting the contradiction is not neutrality; it is a quieter kind of lying. And when only one side of the aisle covered a story, the brief tells you that too, because a measurement you are entitled to should never be quietly corrected. There is no feed here. No recommendations, no related stories, nothing trained on what kept you reading. The brief ends today the way it ended…from eto.news

I'm a big fan of the BBC podcast In Our Time -- and (like most people) I've been playing with the OpenAI APIs. In Our Time has almost 1,000 episodes on everything from Cleopatra to the evolution of teeth to plasma physics, all still available, so it's my starting point to learn about most topics. But it's not well organised. So here are the episodes sorted by library code. It's fun to explore. Web scraping is usually pretty tedious, but I found that I could send the minimised HTML to GPT-3 and get (almost) perfect JSON back: the prompt includes the Typescript definition. At the same time I…
