F8t (Focal Point)

What it does

Every iOS light meter app I tried treated all film the same: one ISO, one reciprocity curve, no roll context. F8t is different. Per-stock reciprocity for 30+ films, multi-spot Zone System, leaf shutter flash sync per camera, shot log with GPS and EXIF info card auto-saved to your camera roll, MF film back tracking, sun widget. 800+ cameras and films in the gear DB. SwiftUI, no backend, no account, all data on-device. One-time purchase EUR 14.99, no subscription, ever.

Frames is a simple app for analog film photographers to log shot details like camera, lens, film stock, exposure settings, and notes while shooting. Later, it can embed this metadata into scanned JPEGs to keep the technical and creative context of each frame. The iPhone app lets you record notes in the field, and the companion Mac app helps attach metadata to your digital scans. There's no cloud storage — everything stays local. The iPhone app is free, and the Mac app has a 7-day trial. I built Frames because I wanted a lightweight, privacy-first tool to bridge the gap between analog…

Needle: We Distilled Gemini Tool Calling into a 26M Model▲776

Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
