Per-app volume control for Mac, from the menu bar
Fabar launched on June 9, 2026 with 1 votes.
What it does
Fabar adds per-app volume control to your Mac's menu bar — a feature macOS still lacks. Quiet a loud app while keeping your music up. Nothing to install besides the app, no subscription — just sliders for each running app. Now free & open source (MIT): https://github.com/gigaptera/fabar
Fabar is a one-time-purchase macOS app that puts per-app volume faders in your menu bar. 7-day free trial. Nothing extra, nothing complicated.
Keep voices at full volume, turn just the music down. Fabar adds the per-app volume control your Mac never had — right in the menu bar. Keep every voice clear while music and notification sounds fade into the background. Slide your BGM down to just-audible and stay in the zone — without touching anything else. Tame the game audio so you can actually hear your friends. One slider does it. You want the music a little quieter, but the volume keys pull the call down with it — because your Mac has one volume for every app. Fabar keeps your volume as it is and simply adds a separate slider for each app. Apps playing sound show up automatically. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Homebrew 6.0.0▲1,481Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!

Hi HN! I was super frustrated at apps like tiktok and wechat preventing me from saving or downloading the animated gifs, so I made a little tool to turn a screen recording into a slack-sized emoji. Hope you get some value from this!
