Finding good value property

I built this product last year when my parents found a unit with 1.3m land value for sale for 825k. Similar properties have already sold for land value in the area when the whole block was sold to developers. This tool is to find these opportunities in bulk, without tediously looking at real estate listings one by one and using slow clunky government land value search tools. Did you know? Astute property buyers compare the sales guide of a property with the land value. The unimproved land value without buildings is assessed by the government. This is often significantly lower than the sales…

In plain words

Finding Good Value Property is a tool that identifies undervalued properties by comparing government-assessed land values against current market listings. It scans multiple properties at once rather than requiring manual review of individual listings, helping buyers spot opportunities where sale prices are significantly below the unimproved land value. The product targets property investors and buyers looking for potential development or resale opportunities. Currently available for New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, and Queensland, it streamlines what would otherwise be tedious research across multiple government databases and real estate platforms.

I realized that the PDF engines of modern desktop browsers (PDFium and PDF.js) support JavaScript with enough I/O primitives to make a basic game like Tetris. It was a bit tricky to find a union of features that work in both engines, but in the end it turns out that showing/hiding annotation "fields" works well to make monochrome pixels, and keyboard input can be achieved by typing in a text input box. All in all it's quite janky but a nice reminder of how general purpose PDF scripting can be. The linked PDF is all ASCII so you can just open it in a text editor, or have a look at…

I originally built this app to organize and reuse interesting React + Tailwind components I came across on Twitter, inspired by the shadcn/ui approach. Later, a friend started contributing their own components, and it got me thinking—this could grow into something bigger, like an NPM for design engineers to share and use components. Would love to hear your thoughts!
