Galaxy Visualization
I've been iterating on a small galaxy visualization project that originally started as a university course assignment, using only provided sample data (no real astronomical distances). Recently, I updated it to include redshift-based distance data, which makes the 3D structure more meaningful and closer to real large-scale galaxy distributions. Repo: https://github.com/Avicted/galaxy_visualization_raylib Demo video (3D navigation + galaxy structures): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC83RDWuPvw Current state: - Written in C (C99 standard) using Raylib -…

In plain words
Galaxy Visualization is an interactive tool that displays 100,000 real galaxies from a sector of space alongside 100,000 randomly generated ones, all rendered using Raylib. Built for astronomy enthusiasts and those interested in space exploration, the project lets users explore and visualize galactic data in an interactive 3D environment. The ability to compare authentic astronomical data with simulated galaxies provides a unique perspective on cosmic scale and distribution.

This project visualizes 100,000 real galaxies in blue and 100,000 randomly distributed galaxies in red. The data is sourced from the GPU programming course at: Åbo Akademi University. Additional redshift survey data is also provided. - GitHub - Avicted/galaxy_visualization_raylib: This project visualizes 100,000 real galaxies in blue and 100,000 randomly distributed galaxies in red. I was curious about spherical helix, ended up making this visualization2025 · visualrambling.space · ▲865I was wondering how I can arrange objects along a spherical helix path, and read some articles on it. I ended up learning about parametric equations again, and make this visualization to document what I learned: https://visualrambling.space/moving-objects-in-3d/ feel free to visit and let me know what you think!

ADS-B visualizer2024 · adsb.exposed · ▲339I've created a web app for querying and visualization of ADS-B datasets: https://adsb.exposed/ Source code: https://github.com/ClickHouse/adsb.exposed/ The results significantly exceeded my expectations because the pictures are insanely beautiful, and the data is a treasure trove. It proves many statements that were not certain: - it is feasible to generate tiles by aggregation on a pixel level (instead of hexagons or rectangular grid); - it does not require JPG/PNG tiles - we can transfer raw bitmap data with zstd compression; - it is possible to…
A physically-based GPU ray tracer written in JuliaFeb 2026 · makie.org · ▲198We ported pbrt-v4 to Julia and built it into a Makie backend. Any Makie plot can now be rendered with physically-based path tracing. Julia compiles user-defined physics directly into GPU kernels, so anyone can extend the ray tracer with new materials and media - a black hole with gravitational lensing is ~200 lines of Julia. Runs on AMD, NVIDIA, and CPU via KernelAbstractions.jl, with Metal coming soon. Demo scenes: github.com/SimonDanisch/RayDemo
Rendering One Million Datapoints with D3 and WebGL2020 · blog.scottlogic.com · ▲200Over the weekend I was discussing the latest news relating to open weights with some of my non-techie friends. After 30 mins of waffling, I realised it is quite a long and interesting story, with many twists and turns. I've always wanted to create a 'long scroll' story, but have never found a suitable story to tell. This felt like a fun weekend project to undertake. The story itself doesn't have too many scroll effects (which is probably a good thing), it was more about trying to tell a story with a certain style that wouldn't really fit on my personal blog. Would love to get your feedback…

Talanoa▲340Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
