GitHut 2.0
A small place to discover languages in GitHub
GitHut 2.0 launched on May 6, 2018 with 1 votes. The site was still online in September 2026, 8 years on.
What it does
GitHut 2.0 is an attempt to proceed the githut.info project. The project did not received any update since 2014/Q4, that is mainly due to the fact that Github Archive changed its datasets. GitHub is the largest code host in the world, with 20 million users and more than 57 million repositories as of April 2017. By analyzing how languages are used in GitHub it's possible to understand the popularity of programming languages among developers and to discover the unique characteristics of each language. GitHub provides a public API to interact with its huge dataset of events and interaction with the hosted repositories. GitHub Archive goes a step further by aggregating and storing the API data. The quantitative data used in GitHut 2.0 is collected from the GitHub Archive dataset via Google BigQuery. The GihHub Archive dataset can be accessed by queries that are syntactically almost the same as SQL queries, with exception of some additional functionality provided by Google. Google provides a free query limit of 1000 GB per month. The query volume is calculated very precisely, it only counts the data that you actually access, regardless of the overall dataset size. This allows you to query datasets, even in the case that they are much bigger than the free query volume. The free query limit is therefore sufficient for the purpose of this Website. You will find the queries that are used to calculate the statistics in the README.md. However if you don't like the idea of using a Google Service for any reason, you can also download the files from the GitHub Archive and process them manually. The statistics are updated on a quarterly basis. The language percentage distribution in the line chart shows the top 10 languages since 2012/Q2. The ranking table shows the top 50 languages based on the last quarter, while the trend is calculated as difference from the same quarter of the year before. The percentage gives the actual fraction of Pull Requests, Pushes,.. in relation to…

I’ve been in the MLOps space for ~10 years, and data is still the hardest unsolved open problem. Code is versioned using Git, data is stored somewhere else, and context often lives in a 3rd location like Slack or GDocs. This is why we built XetHub, a platform that enables teams to treat data like code, using Git. Unlike Git LFS, we don’t just store the files. We use content-defined chunking and Merkle Trees to dedupe against everything in history. This allows small changes in large files to be stored compactly. Read more here:…

GitHub-assistant – Natural language questions from your GitHub data2024 · github.com · ▲49Simon(sfarshid) and I spend a lot of time on GitHub. As data nerds we put together a quick tool to explore your repository’s data. How it works: - Data Loading: We use dlt to pull data (issues, PRs, commits, stars) from GitHub - Semantic Layer: Relta wraps the underlying dataset into a semantic layer so the LLM doesn’t hallucinate. - Text-to-SQL: A text-to-SQL agent transforms your plain-English question into a query using the semantic layer - Generative Charts: assistant-ui dynamically generates a chart based on the SQL query - Refinements: If the semantic layer can’t handle your question,…

Talanoa▲340Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
