Glycohero

Learn blood sugar basics by playing a platformer game

What it does

Glycohero is an educational game about blood sugar management. You run through themed levels, eating foods that raise/lower your blood sugar in real time. Vegetables and lean proteins give you shields and pills. Junk food spike your glucose into the danger zone. Stay in the safe range and fight a boss themed around real-world food challenges. It also provides a flashcard library covering blood sugar basics, food science, exercise, and lifestyle. Every card has reference linking to its source.

    The App I Built to Help Manage My Diabetes2024 · apps.apple.com · ▲185

Hi HN, I’m Joshua, a student, and I’m excited (and a little nervous) to share something deeply personal that I’ve been working on: Islet, my diabetes management app powered by GPT-4o-mini. It’s now on the App Store, but I want to be upfront—it’s still very much in its early stages, with a lot more to go. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes while rowing competitively, and that moment changed everything. It wasn’t just the practical challenges of managing insulin, carb counts, and blood sugars; it fundamentally shifted how I see myself and the world. It forced me to slow down, prioritise my…

    GlycemicGPT – Open-source AI-powered diabetes managementMay 2026 · github.com · ▲64

I'm a Type 1 diabetic and software engineer. Last year I went months between endocrinologists with no clinician reviewing my data. I'm an engineer, so I built the tool I needed — and now I'm open sourcing it. GlycemicGPT is a self-hosted platform that connects continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps, and existing Nightscout instances to an AI analysis layer running on your own infrastructure. Data sources: Dexcom G7 (cloud API) Tandem t:slim X2 and Mobi pumps (direct BLE) Nightscout (point it at your existing instance and you're running in minutes) What the AI layer does: Daily briefs…

  • Hi HN, I built Eigendrum, a web tool that solves the 2D wave equation for arbitrary shapes so you can hear what they sound like as drums. How it works: * Solves -∇²u = λu using finite element analysis (Kφ = λMφ) on a triangle mesh. * Validated to <0.1% error against closed-form solutions for circles (Bessel zeros) and rectangles. * Sound model factors in strike location, Rayleigh damping, and mallet width. * Includes Kac drums I & II to demonstrate identical sound spectra from different geometries. * No frameworks, build steps, or dependencies. Repo and tests:…

Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
