Group of Death – WorldCup bracket predictor with shareable URLs
I couldn't find a nice worldcup bracket visualizer out there so ended up building one. It's nicer than the ones I saw out there. There is no login, no ads, runs client side, uses localStorage and all the state is encoded in the URL itself and you can share it. The calendar feature is nice. I wanted to build my own schedule for the games I was interested in. There is full calendar that you can subscribe to as well, that gets updated as the fixtures get decided. I also wanted to be able to interactively change things and visualize the whole knockout stage. All the state is in the URL fragment.…
What it does
In the maker’s words, at launch
I couldn't find a nice worldcup bracket visualizer out there so ended up building one. It's nicer than the ones I saw out there. There is no login, no ads, runs client side, uses localStorage and all the state is encoded in the URL itself and you can share it. The calendar feature is nice. I wanted to build my own schedule for the games I was interested in. There is full calendar that you can subscribe to as well, that gets updated as the fixtures get decided. I also wanted to be able to interactively change things and visualize the whole knockout stage. All the state is in the URL fragment. It's a handrolled compact byte format. About 203 bytes, ~217 characters. The URL has the full snapshot so the link you share always renders the same brackets. It's versioned so I can change the format and not break links out there. At this point it does everything I wanted it to do for me. Might be some real howlers in there. Let me know if you spot one.
Does the same job

Hi all! With the World Cup around the corner, and being a football fan, I went looking for apps that would give me a detailed overview of groups, matches categorized by group or team, a daily timeline of when games happen that day (especially useful for us in Europe, since some games run pretty late), and a way to follow my favorite team or teams. The problem I ran into was that most apps out there are pretty bloated — like, really bloated. The ones that weren't either didn't focus on the World Cup specifically, or were ridden with betting ads and ads in general. So I built a very minimal…

A web platform I've written to make it easy for people to share goespatial time series data and display it on animated heatmaps. There's also a social media component that allows you to write comments, follow, share and like data sets that you want to engage with. You can also download the CSV data and embed animations into your own websites. People uploading datasets can also choose to make money by accepting donations. Please check out the home page for more details: https://mapipedia.com Here are some samples of things created with the platform (press the play button to start…

Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!
