HeadDown

What it does

HeadDown is a tiny macOS menu bar app that frosts over YouTube, X, and any distracting site once you linger too long. Block your time-sinks and keep your focus.

HeadDown is a tiny macOS menu bar app that quietly frosts over YouTube, X, and any site you name once you’ve lingered too long. No blocklists to wrestle with. No willpower required. Most blockers either nag you to death or are one click away from off. HeadDown does neither. A 10-second grace period before anything happens, so quick checks stay quick and only the rabbit holes get frosted over. No click-to-dismiss. Hold the button for a second and a half to push through. Just enough friction to think twice. Ships blocking YouTube and X. Add or remove any site straight from the menu bar, in two clicks. Everything runs locally on your Mac. No account, no tracking — your browsing and blocklist…from headdown.app

  Homebrew 6.0.0▲1,481

Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!

Hi HN! I was super frustrated at apps like tiktok and wechat preventing me from saving or downloading the animated gifs, so I made a little tool to turn a screen recording into a slack-sized emoji. Hope you get some value from this!
