In plain words
upscaledb-mysql is a MySQL storage engine built on the upscaledb key-value store that aims for full InnoDB compatibility while offering improved performance. It provides both a standard SQL interface through MySQL and a faster NoSQL interface for direct data access. The engine is designed for applications that need high-performance data storage and retrieval, targeting developers and database administrators working with MySQL who encounter performance limitations with traditional storage engines.

After several months of hard work, I'm proud to release the first (beta) version of upscaledb-mysql, a MySQL storage engine based on upscale db . MySQL uses "storage engines" to persist and access the actual table data. The most prominent storage engines are InnoDB and MyISAM. The upscale db storage engine tries to be 100% compatible to InnoDB, while offering higher performance and an even faster NoSQL interface to the table data. If MySQL hits a performance wall you can use the regular upscale db API, connect (via the remote interface) to the MySQL process and directly query or modify the data. Sysbench’s OLAP test uses transactions which are not yet implemented [Scroll down for the TODO…from upscaledb.com

Hi HN, I’m Tullie, founder of Shaped. Previously, I was a researcher at Meta AI, worked on ranking for Instagram Reels, and was a contributor to PyTorch Lightning. We built ShapedQL because we noticed that while retrieval (finding 1,000 items) has been commoditized by vector DBs, ranking (finding the best 10 items) is still an infrastructure problem. To build a decent for you feed or a RAG system with long-term memory, you usually have to put together a vector DB (Pinecone/Milvus), a feature store (Redis), an inference service, and thousands of lines of Python to handle business logic…
