In plain words
This project is a syllable dictionary created with Python and web scraping techniques. It is designed for developers and linguists who need programmatic access to syllable breakdowns of words. The tool compiles syllable data by scraping web sources and organizes it into a searchable dictionary format, making it useful for natural language processing, text analysis, or linguistic research applications.

As most projects do, this one started small. I already had a way to preview Markdown files. Proofer also counts words, sentences, and paragraphs, then averages those values and estimates reading time. The script finds complex or overused phrases , and highlights repeated words, be verbs, and adverbs that make for weak writing, too. It also calculates the Gunning Fog Index, and scores for the Flesch-Kincaid reading ease and grade level tests. I built this script to give me a few more features than Marked , which I had used to proof my writing for years. It worked well, but runtime shot up if it had to process posts with more than a few hundred words. I set out to fix this, and ended up…from zacs.site

Chonkie – A Fast, Lightweight Text Chunking Library for RAG2024 · github.com · ▲199I built Chonkie because I was tired of rewriting chunking code for RAG applications. Existing libraries were either too bloated (80MB+) or too basic, with no middle ground. Core features: - 21MB default install vs 80-171MB alternatives - 33x faster token chunking than popular alternatives - Supports multiple chunking strategies: token, word, sentence, and semantic - Works with all major tokenizers (transformers, tokenizers, tiktoken) - Zero external dependencies for basic functionality Technical optimizations: - Uses tiktoken with multi-threading for faster tokenization - Implements…
A WYSIWYG word processor in PythonApr 2026 · codeberg.org · ▲91Hi all, Finding a good data structure for a word processor is a difficult problem. My notebook diaries on the problem go back 25 years when I was frustrated with using Word for my diploma thesis - it was slow and unstable at that time. I ended up getting pretty hooked on the problem. Right now I’m taking a professional break and decided to finally use the time to push these ideas further, and build MiniWord — a WYSIWYG word processor in Python. My goal is to have a native, non-HTML-based editor that stays simple, fast, and is hackable. So far I am focusing on getting the fundamentals right.…

Wordwise2025 · getwordwise.app · ▲114Hey HN, While learning Danish, I kept translating the same words over and over. I’d take notes, highlight books, save things in random places… then lose track of it all. I wanted something simple. Translate a word, save it with context, and review it later so it actually sticks. Nothing I found really did that. So I built my own app. It lets you: - Translate and save words instantly - Add notes, tags, example sentences, gender, even emojis - Review everything with flashcards using spaced repetition - Track how many words you’ve really learned - Use it fully offline with on-device ML Kit…

Talanoa▲343Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
