I made a service to convert WordPress blogs to Hugo

Hi Hacker News! I made this project to read a WordPress export and create the markdown files for Hugo. It'll speed up the process of moving your blog over to Hugo and let you avoid a bunch of manual work. It came about when I was talking to somebody who was trying to move their site over and didn't want to manually copy and reformat all their posts. They had trouble finding a tool to do it, so I wrote one. I want to make sure it's useful to people before charging them, so it'll give you a download with 3 pages and 5 blog posts converted for free and without asking for any information. If you…

In plain words

This service converts WordPress blog exports into markdown files formatted for Hugo, automating the migration process that would otherwise require manual reformatting of posts and pages. It's designed for bloggers moving from WordPress to Hugo who want to avoid tedious manual work. Users can download a free sample conversion of up to 3 pages and 5 posts without providing information, then pay a one-time fee via Stripe to convert their entire blog.

I realized that the PDF engines of modern desktop browsers (PDFium and PDF.js) support JavaScript with enough I/O primitives to make a basic game like Tetris. It was a bit tricky to find a union of features that work in both engines, but in the end it turns out that showing/hiding annotation "fields" works well to make monochrome pixels, and keyboard input can be achieved by typing in a text input box. All in all it's quite janky but a nice reminder of how general purpose PDF scripting can be. The linked PDF is all ASCII so you can just open it in a text editor, or have a look at…
