Iconic
Turn messy folders into a visual system
Iconic launched on June 4, 2026 with 4 votes, #3,322 of 22,647 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches.
What it does
Unlike existing paid tools, Iconic is fully open-source, local-first, and customizable. It automatically generates contextual folder icons for macOS using SF Symbols and emojis based on folder names. It supports offline fuzzy matching plus optional AI classification, helping turn plain Finder directories into a clear visual structure.

Pretty up your folders. Iconic scans a directory tree and assigns each subfolder a custom icon — composited from the default macOS folder graphic plus a matching SF Symbol — based on the folder's name. Default macOS folders all look the same. Iconic makes your project directories instantly recognizable by matching each folder's purpose to a meaningful icon. Code folders get a chevron.left.forwardslash.chevron.right , photos get photo , music gets music.note — all rendered onto the standard macOS folder graphic so it feels native. git clone https://github.com/HimankMahani/Iconic.git cd Iconic open Iconic.xcodeproj Press ⌘R to build and run. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

Homebrew 6.0.0▲1,481Today, I’m proud to announce Homebrew 6.0.0. The most significant changes since 5.1.0 are a new tap trust security mechanism, the new faster, smaller, default internal Homebrew JSON API, sandboxing on Linux, better defaults informed by our user survey, many brew bundle improvements, improved performance and initial support for macOS 27 (Golden Gate). Happy to discuss any questions here!

Hi HN! I was super frustrated at apps like tiktok and wechat preventing me from saving or downloading the animated gifs, so I made a little tool to turn a screen recording into a slack-sized emoji. Hope you get some value from this!
