In plain words

Iosevka is an open-source monospace typeface designed for programming and terminal use. It features a slender default design with glyphs at exactly half-em width, allowing more columns to fit on screen compared to standard fonts. The typeface comes in Normal and Extended widths to suit different spacing preferences, and includes specialized Term and Fixed variants optimized for terminal emulators with narrower symbols that follow terminal column requirements.

From the sources

The Iosevka’s monospace family is provided in a slender outfit by default: glyphs are exactly 1/2em wide . Compared to the competitors, you could fit more columns within the same screen width. Iosevka provides two widths, Normal and Extended . If you prefer more breeze between the character, choose Extended and enjoy. Terminal emulators have a stricter compatibility requirements for fonts. Therefore, Iosevka and Iosevka Slab all contain two specialized families, Term and Fixed , targeting terminal users. In these families, the symbols will be narrower to follow terminals’ ideology of column count. In the Fixed families, the ligation will be disabled to ensure better compatibility in certain…from be5invis.github.io

Originally we (Andrey, Marcus, Juho) built MonoLisa in 2020 as we realised there's room for a better monospaced typeface for developers. The key insight was to make the glyphs slightly wider to make more room for design to make letters like m feel less cramped. Since then we've released a variable v2 (2022) and now we're happy to expand the typeface with a new family called MonoLisa Text. The reasoning was to cover *other* use cases beyond coding with this proportional font. We hope you give Monolisa a go as there's a free trial to try. We also welcome feedback!

    I'm making an open-source platform for learning Japanese2025 · kanadojo.com · ▲288

The idea is actually quite simple. As a Japanese learner and a coder, I've always wanted there to be an open-source, 100% free for learning Japanese, similar to Monkeytype in the typing community. Unfortunately, pretty much all language learning apps are closed-sourced and paid these days, and the ones that are free have unfortunately been abandoned. But of course, just creating yet another language learning app was not enough - there has to be a unique selling point. And then I thought to myself: why not make it crazy and do what no other language learning app ever did by adding a gazillion…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…
