Japan Train Boarding Helper

Japan train checker — is this one going your way

What it does

Standing on a Japanese platform, unsure if the train in front of you is the right one? Japan Train Boarding Helper is a free web app that lets you select your station and destination, then shows you exactly what your train's display should look like — so you can confirm before you board. Supports major Tokyo-area lines including Keikyu, Meguro, Hibiya, Mita, Sotetsu, and N'EX. No sign-up required. Just open and go.

It spent another 7 or so in various nit picky things I asked for to get to the current version. I know these will only get better but I think the thing I find most interesting is no libraries…

Hey HN, Henry here from Cactus. We open-sourced Needle, a 26M parameter function-calling (tool use) model. It runs at 6000 tok/s prefill and 1200 tok/s decode on consumer devices. We were always frustrated by the little effort made towards building agentic models that run on budget phones, so we conducted investigations that led to an observation: agentic experiences are built upon tool calling, and massive models are overkill for it. Tool calling is fundamentally retrieval-and-assembly (match query to tool name, extract argument values, emit JSON), not reasoning. Cross-attention…
