Jlq – A CLI to easily tail+query JSON log files using Rust+SQLite

Hi all! It's been a while since I posted something. Wrote this back in November to scratch an itch regarding tailing logs locally for multiple services. I know we all love jq...but I'm quite comfortable with SQLite and SQL so just wanted to use that instead. Published my first Rust crate today! My first public Rust project so be gentle :) . Hope you enjoy it! https://crates.io/crates/jlq https://github.com/hamin/jlq

Jlq – A CLI to easily tail+query JSON log files using Rust+SQLite launched on January 3, 2023 with 10 votes, #1,399 of 3,901 launches that month and more than 75% of that year's launches. The site was still online in September 2026, 3 years on.

In plain words

Jlq is a command-line tool for tailing and querying JSON log files using SQL and SQLite instead of jq. Built in Rust, it allows developers to monitor logs from multiple services locally and run SQL queries against log data. The tool is designed for users who prefer SQL syntax over jq's query language.

Hi everyone! I’m excited to open source GritQL, a Rust CLI for searching and transforming source code. GritQL comes from my experiences with conducting large scale refactors and migrations. Usually, I would start exploring a codebase with grep. This is easy to start with, but most migrations end up accumulating additional requirements like ensuring the right packages are imported and excluding cases which don’t have a viable migration path. Eventually, to build a complex migration, I usually ended up having to write a full codemod program with a tool like jscodeshift. This comes with its own…

Hi HN, I’m a fullstack developer, and honestly, I’ve lost count of how many side projects I’ve worked on over the years. But one idea kept coming back to me: a different kind of email client. It first came to me in 2014: “What if we could handle emails more like conversations?” Every year, I’d revisit this concept in my “Build Notes.” Ten years later, no one had built exactly what I had in mind — so I finally decided to do it myself. That’s how Talanoa was born. I wanted something focused on people, not timelines. I was tired of marking messages as unread just to remember to reply later, or…

  • This works suprisingly well. Just give it instructions like "make it winter" or "remove the cars" and the photo is altered. • The project is called QueryStorm. It uses Roslyn to offer C# (and VB.NET) support in Excel, as an alternative to VBA. I've posted about it before, but a lot has changed since then so figured I'd share an update. The current version includes a host of new features, namely a C# debugger, support for NuGet packages, and the ability to publish Excel extensions to an "AppStore" (which is essentially a NuGet repository). The AppStore can be used by anyone with the (free) runtime component. Another great addition is the community license, which is a free license for individuals and small companies…

  • Hey HN! Some more info: I’m an NHS doctor and the founder of Pi-A (https://www.pi-a.io) which developed Lungy (https://www.lungy.app). Lungy is an app (iOS only for now) that responds to breathing in real-time and was designed to make breathing exercises more engaging and beneficial to do. It hopefully has many aspects of interest to the HN community – real-time fluid, cloth and soft body sims running on the phone’s GPU. My background is as a junior surgical trainee and I started building Lungy in 2020 during the first COVID lockdown in London. During COVID, there were…
