Lighthouse – Inbox Zero for RSS (RSS Reader with a New Twist on the UI)

I’ve been reading HackerNews for a long time, and often the upvoted articles are from great blogs I want to subscribe to. That’d be the job of an RSS feed reader. However, in my case, being subscribed to a blog doesn’t mean I want to read everything from that blog. I like to filter content before it gets into my reading list. This is why I developed Lighthouse. It is separated into inbox and library. The inbox is where newly published content appears in, where users can bookmark content they’re interested in, and mark the rest as seen to immediately archive it. The library is the place for…

What it does

In the maker’s words, at launch

I’ve been reading HackerNews for a long time, and often the upvoted articles are from great blogs I want to subscribe to. That’d be the job of an RSS feed reader. However, in my case, being subscribed to a blog doesn’t mean I want to read everything from that blog. I like to filter content before it gets into my reading list. This is why I developed Lighthouse. It is separated into inbox and library. The inbox is where newly published content appears in, where users can bookmark content they’re interested in, and mark the rest as seen to immediately archive it. The library is the place for bookmarked content, basically a read later list. It is also possible to view all content of a specific RSS feed, but that’s not the primary use-case. The cool thing is that this flow makes it easy to automate filtering via rules. When new content arrives in the inbox, depending on conditions, it can automatically be bookmarked or archived. Would love to know what you think about this different way of working with content.

Hi, I've been building Lighthouse for the better part of a year, and now seems to be a good opportunity to do a Show HN. Lighthouse is a RSS feed reader, and also supports subscribing to newsletters. It works really well for personal content curation, because differently from most readers, new content first arrives in the Lighthouse Inbox, where articles are either bookmarked (to move to library) or archived. The assumption is that even if you subscribed to a feed or newsletter, it doesn't mean you want to read everything they post. So an additional curation step helps keeping unwanted…

    You Need Feeds – Introduce friends/family/workmates to RSS and webfeeds2018 · ▲205

Partially inspired by recent discussions on HN and other places. I've made a single-focus site to introduce your friends/colleagues/neighbours/family to RSS and web feeds. https://www.youneedfeeds.com/ The site is meant to give the elevator pitch for feeds, show a newbie what feeds are and how to use them, set them up with a reader, and give them some nice starter content if they want it. So much tastemaking and newsmaking power is concentrated in the hands of Facebook/Reddit/Twitter, but I'm convinced it's because much of the general populace doesn't…
