What it does
Lumin is a free revision app combining Duolingo's gamification with Quizlet's study effectiveness. Unlike other revision tools, Lumin teaches before it quizzes — with worked examples, reading cards and hints. Built for GCSE students with AQA-aligned content across Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science. Features include spaced repetition, XP, streaks, a mastery map, focus mode and an interactive piano for Music Theory.

Hi HN, I watch A LOT of educational YouTube videos but wasn't forgetting a good chunk of the details because I was only really passively watching. So I made a tool that generates quiz questions/flashcards from YouTube videos, and uses spaced repetition like Anki or Duolingo to keep it in memory. Quizlet, a popular tool among high schoolers and college students used to study for tests recently made it's core functionality paid. In an era where Autodesk, Adobe, and Microsoft hold their proprietary software to their chests, it's exciting to see opensource alternatives come to compete with them.
