What it does
There are tons of mail testing services online with different features, limits and prices. But if you develop on a Windows machine you can have a local SMTP server and save both time and money; forget about proxies, tunnels an monthly fees!

Easy to use, light on resources and without message limits nor quotas. Just run MailCatch.exe and the server will begin listening on the selected port. By default the port 25 is used, but you may change it should you need to from the Settings dialog. There you can change the authentication credentials too, they are set to smtp for both the user and the password. Then just point your client to 127.0.0.1 at the selected port, set the credentials with PLAIN authentication and start sending test emails. You can send messages from PHP, JS, C#, Python or any other language that supports SMTP. You will no longer need to configure tunnels/ports/proxies, the server is on your local computer. Hey! I made Heynote entirely for my own use case. For many years, I always had an Emacs instance running with the scratch buffer open, even long after I had abandoned Emacs as my programming editor in favor of more recent IDE:s. The simplicity of having just one big scratch buffer appeals to me, but I still want to separate the different things I jot down somehow (without using tabs or similar).
